Just-released numbers show Minnesota’s construction and leisure-and-hospitality industries continue to have job growth rates well above other sectors. State jobs analyst Steve Hine says they always keep an eye on areas like retail and hospitality for any sign that people have reduced discretionary spending, “but right now we’re seeing quite the opposite. We’re seeing robust spending and strong employment growth in those areas that are most sensitive to economic conditions.”
Hine expects sectors like construction and health care to have continued job growth in coming months. But growth remains sluggish in logging and mining, and Minnesota’s “financial activities” and “information” sectors lost jobs over the past year.
