A federal judge has approved a plan by the Catholic Diocese of Duluth to contribute about 40 million dollars to victims of priest sex abuse, reports the Duluth News Tribune. The diocese is also required to release files on more than three dozen priests that church officials determined were “credibly accused” of sexual misconduct, plus implement new child-protection protocols. The settlement allows the Duluth Diocese to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, prompted by a 2015 jury award of over eight million dollars to a Colorado man who alleged he was sexually abused by a priest in Squaw Lake in 1977.
