A jury of nine men and six women, including two people of color, has been chosen in the trial of Officer Jeronimo Yanez, charged with manslaughter for fatally shooting Philando Castile. This afternoon’s opening statements included squad-cam video in the moments leading up to the shooting and including the seven shots fired on Castile by Officer Yanez. Earlier today, the judge ruled that the jury would be allowed to hear that Castile had a permit to carry a gun. The judge also ruled that the defense could challenge whether Castile was properly entitled to the permit to carry that weapon.
