Key Republican says signed bonding bill will erase “do-nothing” label of 2018 session

May 31, 2018 By Bill Werner

Republicans are happy Governor Mark Dayton signed a 1.5-billion-dollar bonding bill for state public works projects, despite “serious concerns” with the legislation. Representative Dean Urdahl from Grove City says a bonding bill is important, particularly when the tax bill and supplemental budget bill were vetoed.  “Now there’s something that those running for re-election can say, yeah, we did something important. This is a big deal, a big bill. There are projects in the legislative districts of nearly all legislators,” he says.

Urdahl contends a bonding bill signed into law will change history’s judgment of the 2018 session.  “We have passed a major piece of legislation with 1.5 billion dollars in it, and it’s doing important things. You can’t say that it’s a do-nothing legislature when something gets passed that is this big,” Urdahl says.
