A new bill aims to crack down on fraud targeted at seniors. U-S Senator Amy Klobuchar says “as our population ages, we’re seeing more and more cases of senior fraud–including fraudulent investment plans, fraudulent prizes, charity scams and telemarketing , and so we’re telling the Federal Trade Commission that they should be doing more of this work, that they need to have a specific focus on senior fraud.” The bill would expedite the handling of fraud complaints and aims…
In addition, the bill would require the FTC to distribute information materials to seniors, their families, and their caregivers that explain how to recognize fraud schemes and how to contact law enforcement authorities in the event that a senior is targeted. Klobuchar co-authored the “Seniors Fraud Prevention Act” with Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine. Klobuchar and Collins have introduced this bill in the two previous Congresses. In 2016, the legislation passed the Senate Commerce Committee without opposition.
