Supporters of Senator Amy Klobuchar’s bid for president ramp up their efforts in Minnesota on this first day of early voting for the March 3rd “Super Tuesday” presidential primary. Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and Mayor Jacob Frey are at a morning (8am) event in Minneapolis, while Mayor Melvin Carter shows his support at an event in Saint Paul. State lawmakers and other elected officials who back Klobuchar will be on hand at courthouses and other venues in Duluth, Moorhead, Saint Cloud, Mankato, Bemidji and Minnetonka. Klobuchar herself is back in Minnesota tonight for a rally and Martin Zellar concert at First Avenue in Minneapolis. She’ll be joined by Governor Tim Walz, Senator Tina Smith and Congresswoman Angie Craig. Zellar and his band headlined a fundraiser for Klobuchar during her first U-S Senate campaign back in 2006.
Meanwhile Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has get-out-the-vote rallies this morning in downtown Minneapolis and at the U-of-M in support of Bernie Sanders.
Early and absentee voters in Minnesota are casting the first ballots in the nation for the “Super Tuesday” presidential primary. Voting is starting here over two weeks before the nation-leading Iowa caucuses. Ballots of course won’t be counted until after the polls close March 3rd.
