Senator Amy Klobuchar is urging the federal Health and Human Services Department to do a better job preventing and responding to elder abuse in nursing homes and other facilities. It comes after a report that 97 percent of the allegations of physical abuse, neglect, unexplained serious injury and theft in state-licensed facilities were not investigated, plus facilities did not notify families or guardians when incidents occurred. Governor Mark Dayton has also said he’ll establish a special task force to address the problem.
