State lawmakers continue looking for solutions to fix ongoing technical problems causing backlogs with the new Minnesota Licensing and Vehicle Registration System or MNLARS. At at hearing in St. Paul Thursday, Senator Dave Senjem from Rochester asked Minnesota-IT Chief Enterprise Architect Joan Redwing if she could give lawmakers any idea when the problems would be fixed asking “is it 6 months out is it a year out, is it two years out?” Redwing responded that “it’s important that we take the time it takes to prioritize and develop a roadmap concurrent with the budget review that provides you guys as decision makers an informed set of options.” Redwing says the goal is to have that roadmap in place–as a start to fix the problems–at the end of January. While some testifiers at the hearing noted minor improvements, President of the Minnesota Automobile Dealer’s Association Scott Lambert said “all of our members, Mr. chairman, all of our members, are still sitting on or having problems related to MNLARS. Three quarters of them think the system has not improved or is even getting worse.”
