Lawmakers urge better rail safety after Callaway crash

March 28, 2016 By Scott Peterson

marquart

(St. Paul, MN)  —  State DFL Representative Paul Marquart from Dilworth is renewing his call for better rail safety after last week’s train-semi collision in Callway. Marquart says we need to “do everything we can as a state to make sure that all those intersections, all those railroad crossings, at least all the ones we can get to are made to be as safe as possible.” Marquart says railroads should pay part of the tab to make rail crossings safer statewide. In Callaway on Thursday a train collided with a semi carrying propane, resulting in the evacuation of the small town. Governor Dayton visited Callaway on Saturday to meet with officials about the accident. He’s calling on the legislature to recognize the urgency of rail safety in light of last week’s crash.
