Lawsuit: Priest who abused children in Minnesota returning to ministry in India

April 19, 2016 By Bill Werner

A federal lawsuit alleges a Catholic priest who was deported after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a minor in Minnesota, is now being allowed to return to the ministry in India with the Vatican’s approval. Megan Peterson says when she was 14 she was abused by Father Joseph Jeyapaul  in the Crookston Diocese in 2004.  As to these latest developments, Peterson says “I felt abused and degraded and re-victimized all over again. It felt like a slap in the face to myself and other survivors of clergy sex abuse across the globe, really.”  It’s unclear whether the lawsuit can force Catholic church officials from India into U-S court. Officials at the Diocese of Crookstron have not been immediately reachable for comment.
