Lead prosecutor pleads for peaceful protests, time to bring justice in Floyd killing

May 28, 2020 By Bill Werner

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman is pleading for peaceful protests and no more destruction of property in the Twin Cities, even as protesters demand charges against officers involved in the death of George Floyd. Freeman says leading his team are two prosecutors who brought justice in the Justine Damond case. He says, “It’s one of the few successful murder convictions of a police officer or [a conviction for] using force in the country, and I had a lot of pressure to hurry that…. You can’t do that. These need to be done right. Please, give me and United States Attorney time to do this right and we will bring you justice.”

U.S. Attorney Erica MacDonald, the lead federal prosecutor in Minnesota, says President Trump and U-S Attorney General William Barr “are directly and actively monitoring the investigation.”
