A committee of the Minnesota Legislature has recommended two candidates for a vacant seat on the University of Minnesota Board of Regents representing the First Congressional District in southern Minnesota. The panel was unable to settle on one applicant, and forwarded to lawmakers the names of Mayo cardiologist Doctor Brooks Edwards and Mary Davenport, interim president of Rochester Community and Technical College. It’s expected the Minnesota House and Senate will vote Thursday in joint session on a replacement for Patricia Simmons, the University’s longest-serving regent, who announced her resignation in March.
