(To shorten, cut last line)
There are only two weeks left in the legislative session and here’s what major work still has to be done and what might not happen: Probably the trickiest issue is matching up Minnesota’s tax code with the new federal changes that President Trump and Republicans pushed through Congress. Governor Mark Dayton, the Republican-controlled House and the GOP-controlled Senate take significantly different approaches and each are accusing the other of not doing enough for working Minnesotans. There’s also a bonding bill for state public works projects, and Dayton and Republicans are far apart on a number. Both sides will likely agree on additional funding for school security, but there will probably be a standoff over tightening gun laws such as universal background checks. Also expect fights over education funding, veterans homes, and a plethora of other issues.
