(St. Paul, MN) — “I welcome the opportunity to dispel some of the misinformation that’s out there.” That’s how Republican Representative Peggy Scott of Andover opened a bipartisan work group meeting today at the Capitol about making Minnesota driver’s licenses comply with federal REAL ID requirements. Scott says “we are still 120 days from a date that hasn’t even been set yet before REAL ID would become a reality here in the state of Minnesota where people would have to have it to board airplane.” Governor Mark Dayton wants the issue dealt with immediately in a special session but Republicans argue it can wait. Work groups will meet throughout the day to also address unemployment on the Iron Range and racial disparities as possible issues for a special session.
