A Fargo man convicted of shooting two police officers in a Milwaukee suburb in November 2020 will likely spend the rest of his life in prison. A judge on Monday added another 80 years to the 50-year sentence Nathanael Benton is already serving for trying to kill another jail inmate with a sharpened toothbrush. The judge noted the officers are still healing and “can’t work in their chosen profession and can’t do things with their kids.” Benton shot the officers at close range as they were investigating a possible hit-and-run at a hotel in the Milwaukee suburb of Delafield. WITI-TV reports the courtroom at sentencing was packed with officers showing their support for their injured comrades.
