Life sentence for man convicted in 2021 fatal shooting in Inver Grove Heights

July 12, 2022 By Scott Peterson

A man convicted in a fatal shooting in Inver Grove Heights last year has been sentenced to life in prison. 44-year-old Gabriel Cruz was accused of shooting and killing 38-year-old Bryant Lutgens on January 31st. Cruz was convicted of murder while committing aggravated robbery by a Dakota County jury. Prosecutors say Cruz attempted to rob Lutgens and shot him in the head after a struggle ensued. Police found Lutgens’ body in a snowbank the next day. Cruz will first be eligible for parole in 30 years. Two accomplices are scheduled for sentencing later this month and next.
