Local DFL, GOP offer vastly differing views on last night’s debate

October 20, 2016 By Scott Peterson

“I’ll keep you in suspense.”
That was Donald Trump’s response last night when asked during the third and final presidential debate whether or not he would accept the outcome of the election. Trump for weeks has called the election process “rigged.” During the debate, Hillary Clinton called Trump’s response “horrifying.” Immediately afterwards, Trump campaign manager Kelly Anne Conway told CNN that Trump would accept the outcome.

Here in Minnesota, Trump’s state campaign director Andy Post said the debate “…confirmed what many of us already knew about Hillary Clinton: she says one thing behind closed doors and says another to the American people. Her lies know no boundaries, like her private support for ‘open borders’ and TPP, and her dangerous and inappropriate financial relationships with foreign governments, even those who oppress their citizens. ”

But Minnesota DFL Chair Ken Martin says regarding Trump’s comments about the election that “every Republican in Minnesota and across the country should repudiate Trump’s reckless attack against our democratic process.” And he says “how anyone running for elected office can support someone who rejects the most fundamental cornerstone of our democracy is beyond me, and that should disqualify them.”

The election is November 8th.
