The Lyle School District in far southern Minnesota has canceled classes today because of significant damage to two classrooms when a semi crashed into a wall of the school building Tuesday morning. The truck left the road after hitting a car that was making a left turn. Authorities report the entire cab of the semi entered the room where there were 12 students in class during the first period of the school day. Two students were transported to an Austin hospital with head injuries that were not thought to be serious. The driver of the car and a child passenger received minor injuries, while the semi driver was not hurt.
The Lyle school superintendent says counseling will be provided to students once classes resume, but it’s not clear how soon that will be.
