The longest-serving state lawmaker in Minnesota history — Representative Lyndon Carlson from Crystal — says he will not run for re-election. Carlson, who’s 79, is in his 23rd two-year term and was first elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1972. He says the past 47 years in the legislature have been “exceptionally fulfilling” and as a teacher one of his main interests has been in education. The 2020 legislative session which convenes in February will be Carlson’s last — but he says he looks forward to being an active participant, just as he always has been. Carlson chairs the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.
