Authorities say a man was killed Friday morning in Sauk Rapids Township when he stepped in front of a train. The Star Tribune reports 54-year-old Dale Fries’ car was stuck on the track and he was outside the vehicle when a train approached on an adjacent track, applied its brakes and sounded its horn, and Fries walked in front of the locomotive and was hit. There was repair work at the crossing and it appears Fries drove around barricades before his car became stuck. The train did not hit his vehicle and crossing arms and signals were working at the time.
