State Rep. Matt Dean (R-Dellwood)
State Representative Matt Dean, a Republican from Dellwood and point-man in the Minnesota House on health care, announced today he’s running for governor. Dean says the government broke health care and his number-one priority is to fix it. He says, “The more uncertainty there is in D-C, the more certainty we need here in Minnesota. We need a governor who can lead on health care, and whether we need forgiveness or permission from the federal government, I think we can get it if we have the right governor — and I want to step in and do that.”
Dean is the second Republican to officially throw his hat into the ring for governor in 2018. Ramsey County Commissioner Blake Huffman announced last week. A number of Democrats have already jumped into the race. Governor Mark Dayton is not running for re-election.
