Workers are informational-picketing outside Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester this afternoon, objecting to Mayo Clinic’s plan to outsource its food service to a multi-national corporation. SEIU Healthcare Minnesota President Jamie Gulley says the union proposed if food service workers remain Mayo employees, working under the direction of the outside management company, the union will offer a 25-thousand-dollar grant out of dues money “to train our members and to make sure that that program is successful and ready to go on day one.” Mayo responds food service employees will be offered similar positions with the outside contractor at their current pay rate and will get credit for years of service. The two sides have another meeting next Tuesday.
