(St. Paul, MN) — Drug diversions in health care facilities accounted for 20-percent of substantiated allegations of abuse, neglect or financial exploitation of vulnerable adults between July 2013 and June 2014. A new report from the state Health Department says there were 14 substantiated cases of health care workers diverting drugs from 27 vulnerable adults during that roughly one-year period. Health Commissioner Dr. Ed Ehlinger says drug diversion and prescription abuse is a growing problem in Minnesota and nationally. He says workers need to know drug theft will not be tolerated here.
