Hundreds of Minnesotans will honor fallen U-S service members today during the Memorial Day Ceremony at Fort Snelling (Monday 10 A-M). For the first time in 35 years, American flags are being placed on the headstones of all 228-thousand veterans and their families. The non-profit organization Flags for Fort Snelling raised 240-thousand dollars to honor every hero laid to rest at the national cemetery. Minnesota Air National Guard Brigadier General Jon Safstrom is the keynote speaker for the Memorial Day program. Governor Mark Dayton and U-S Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith are also scheduled to give remarks.
