(Milan, Italy) — American captain Austin Matthews had three points as Team U-S-A beat Germany 5-1 on Saturday to finish preliminary play and advance to the knock out rounds. Brock Faber scored a goal, Quinn Hughes notched an assist and Matt Boldy had eight shots as the U.S. squad improved to 3-0 in the preliminary round and will now get a bye to the quarter-finals. Connor Hellebuyck made 23 saves for his second win of the tournament. The Americans advance and will face the winner between Sweden and Latvia.
As for the United States women’s team, they”ll try and maintain their domination at the Olympics as they meet Sweden this morning in the semifinals. The U.S. is 5-0 so far outscoring their opponents 26-1 which includes four straight shutouts. The women have medaled seven times in Olympic history including a pair of Gold medals in 2018 and 1998. Puck drops at 9:40 A-M.
