>>Teens Still Believe Higher Education Can Solve Global Challenges
(Minneapolis, MN) – A national study by the U of M finds that 89% of teenagers still see value in higher education for solving global challenges. College of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources (CFANS) Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs Julie Grossman says there’s a perception of teens feeling let down by major issues, wanting to solve them, but not knowing how. She says teens want more than classroom learning: “Almost 60% said that hands-on learning, so getting out of the classroom and doing what they’re interested in, would influence their college choice.” The study found that teens are most worried about ensuring a nutritious, affordable, and sustainable food supply, protecting natural resources, and climate change. Grossman says employers across the food and agriculture sector, which are looking for new blood in Minnesota, believe preparation is what the workforce demands. She says not all CFANS careers are farming, and many options blend fields.
>>Used Car Prices Remain High, Shortage Continues
(Undated) – Used car prices remain stubbornly high in Minnesota, and a lingering shortage is a major factor. Dealership lots aren’t as bare as they were during the pandemic, but there are still fewer used vehicles than normal, especially budget-friendly options. Lower new-car production several years ago means fewer trade-ins entering the market now, and higher interest rates are encouraging drivers to keep their cars longer. On top of that, Minnesota’s winters and rust concerns make reliable used vehicles harder to find, keeping demand strong and prices elevated.
