(Minneapolis, MN) — There’s a federal court hearing in Minneapolis today (Wed, 4 pm) in a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s attempt to withhold funding from so-called sanctuary cities. Minneapolis is being targeted for refusing to implement new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) policies. San Francisco and Santa Clara County, California, are leading the lawsuit, and Minneapolis is among 16 jurisdictions supporting the case. Mayor Jacob Frey says in a statement, ” Minneapolis is proud to stand with immigrant families – not just in words, but in court.”

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota House voted this week to honor the late Hermantown Representative Mary Murphy by naming the state’s library construction grants program in her name. DFL Rep. Leon Lillie of St. Paul says Murphy was a trailblazer and would be proud of all the women and their work in the space. Republican Rep. Duane Quam of Byron says it was great to talk to her about difficult subjects, and Murphy had a true and wonderful heart. Murphy was the House’s longest-serving woman and the state’s second-longest-serving legislator. She died in December at age 85.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Eight individuals from Minnesota are facing racketeering charges after investigators allege they stole over $200,000 in pull-tab cash from various bars and restaurants throughout the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. According to the criminal complaint, the robbers would arrive after the bar closed, wearing ski masks, wielding sledgehammers, and then breaking into the bar’s safe. Thankfully, no one got hurt. Most of the money stolen was earmarked for youth athletic associations. The group’s ring leader helped plan the 44 burglaries that occurred between March 6th, 2023, and February of 2024.

(Foley, MN) — A pickup driver from Milaca is being treated for injuries suffered in a crash involving a black bear near Foley in Benton County. The Minnesota State Patrol says 45-year-old Douglas Cramlet was driving on Highway 23 this morning when he struck the bear. Cramlet was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
