>>Ex-Viking Adrian Peterson Stopped for Speeding, DWI in Richfield

(Richfield, MN) — Former Vikings Pro Bowl running back Adrian Peterson is accused of driving drunk early this (Fri) morning in Richfield.  State troopers stopped 40-year-old Peterson on Highway 77 for going 83 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone.  A-P took a preliminary breath test, and his blood alcohol content was .14 percent.  He was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree D-W-I and posted bond about two hours later.  Peterson attended the Vikings draft party Thursday night at U-S Bank Stadium.

 

>>Minnesota Senate Passes Education Policy Bill

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Senate has passed this year’s Education Policy omnibus bill.  The provisions include building a statewide consensus on what qualifies as a student absence, requiring districts to limit the use of cell phones in schools, allowing students to carry drugs like Narcan in case a fellow student suffers an opiate overdose, and supporting students with catastrophic injuries suffered during sports.   The bill passed the Senate 39 to 26.   Following passage in the House, the bill will go through conference committee to resolve any differences between the two chambers.

 

>>DFL Files Complaint Against Senate District 6 GOP Nominee Heintezman

(St. Paul, MN) — A complaint filed by the Minnesota D-F-L Party alleges Senate District 6 Republican nominee Keri Heintzeman violated campaign finance law.  Heintzeman won the G-O-P primary for the seat of ex-Senator Justin Eichorn of Grand Rapids.  The complaint claims that nine people contributed two thousand dollars to Heintezman’s campaign, but state law bars candidates from accepting more than one thousand per donor.  Heintezman’s campaign says the contributions are legal and this complaint is an effort to smear her reputation. She faces D-F-L candidate Denise Siply in the special election Tuesday.

 

>>Pelican Rapids Mother Pleads Guilty to Killing 3-Year-Old Daughter

(Pelican Rapids, MN) — A Pelican Rapids mother is pleading guilty to unintentional second-degree murder for the death of her three-year-old daughter.  Thirty-year-old Suad Ali was arrested on July 10th, 2023, after police responded to her home on a report of an unresponsive child.  The girl was brought to Essentia Health, where she was pronounced dead.  Court documents say Ali told officers she had suffocated her daughter to stop her crying for food and smiled while they were performing C-P-R.  Ali was found competent to stand tril last month and took a plea deal. She will be sentenced on June 16th.

 

>>Rochester Man Pleads Guilty to Felony Drug, Weapons Charges

(Rochester, MN) — A Rochester man will be sentenced in June for a Christmas Eve shooting incident and drug bust.  Police were called to reports of gunshots and found bullet holes at a house.  Officers later searched the home of 25-year-old Benjamin Harris and his parents and located 50 rounds of ammunition, 50 grams white powdery substances, amphetamines, pills, and suspected ketamine.  Harris pleaded guilty to felony drug and weapons charges.

 

>>Twins and Angels Open Weekend Series at Target Field

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins open a three-game series tonight (Fri 6:40pm) against the Los Angeles Angels at Target Field.  The Twins lost 3-0 to the White Sox in a rain-shortened seven inning game Thursday.  The Angels beat the Pirates 4-3 last night in Anaheim.  Pablo Lopez is back on the mound for Minnesota tonight for the first time since April 8th.   Kyle Hendricks is the starter for L-A.
