(Mankato, MN) — A Mankato man is under arrest in connection with the death of his ten-month-old son last fall. Police say 26-year-old Omni Morningstar is jailed pending second-degree manslaughter charges in the death of Remington Morningstar. Officers found the boy not breathing on October 1st, 2025, and staff at Mayo Clinic Health System were unable to save him. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension assisted local investigators with the case.

(Willmar, MN) — All classes are canceled today (Tues) in the Willmar School District after a reported threat. Superintendent Dr. Bill Adams says the district received the threat after school on Monday and is working closely with local law enforcement to investigate. Out of an abundance of caution, all schools will be closed—no eLearning, no activities, and no entry to school buildings, including Cardinal Place. Earlier Monday, a middle school student was found with a paring knife in their backpack following a social media dispute. No one was hurt, and the incident is under investigation.

(Washington, D.C.) — Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach and Congressman Pete Stauber have introduced new legislation aimed at keeping federal benefit dollars in the United States. The Preventing the Repatriation of American Benefits Act would revoke welfare eligibility for noncitizens who send more than $1,000 a year overseas. The bill follows investigations into fraud across Minnesota social service programs, where at least nine billion taxpayer dollars were allegedly stolen, with some funds traced overseas, including to Al-Shabaab. The Republican lawmakers say the measure closes loopholes and protects benefits for Americans.
