(St. Paul, MN) — An air quality alert remains in effect for all of Minnesota through 9 a.m. Tuesday, due to smoke from Canadian wildfires. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says the worst conditions will be in the northern half of the state. Children, older adults, and people with heart or lung conditions are most at risk and should limit time outdoors. Smoke is expected to begin dispersing from west to east tonight into Tuesday morning.

(St. Paul, MN) — Poor air quality could throw a wrench into the first day of high school sports practices across Minnesota. State sports officials say their guidelines call for moving outdoor activities indoors when air quality readings reach unhealthy levels. If conditions become extremely hazardous, practices are often postponed or canceled. An Air Quality Alert is currently in effect for much of the state.

>>Red River Rescue

(Moorhead, MN) — Quick action by area first responders saved a man from the Red River Saturday afternoon. The Moorhead Fire Department launched an inflatable Zodiac boat after spotting the man near an area bridge. With assistance from Moorhead police, firefighters pulled him from the water and brought him to safety. No injuries were reported. The Fargo Fire Department, Fargo Police Department, and Sanford Ambulance also assisted at the scene.

>>Superior Police Search for a Missing Woman

(Superior, WI) — Superior Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a missing woman. Forty-year-old Corrine Johansen was last seen leaving her apartment last Tuesday by jumping about ten feet to the ground from a second-story balcony without shoes. Police have received multiple possible sightings, including one near the Villa Marina area. Several community search efforts have taken place in recent days, including at the Superior Dog Park, Wisconsin Point, and Great Lakes Elementary School. She was last seen wearing a black or dark blue tank top and gray sweatpants, running towards Superior High School.

>>Olmsted County Cannabis Lottery

(Rochester, MN) — Olmsted County is opening its cannabis retail business lottery. It’s for retail licenses only. Applications and the $100 fee are due by August 22nd. Applicants must pass a background check through the Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management and show proof of a pending state retail application.

>>St. Paul Bouncer Charged with 2nd-Degree Murder

(St. Paul, MN) — A St. Paul bouncer is charged with second-degree murder. Twenty-nine-year-old Davarius Clark is accused of shooting a man on August 7th. Metro Transit police officers say they ran towards the Midway Saloon after hearing gunfire around midnight. Officers found the shot victim and Clark upon arrival. The victim was brought to a hospital, where he died. Police say Clark allegedly told them the victim had called him a racial slur and spat at him. Surveillance video shows the man spitting on Clark before Clark pulls out an object, and the man falls.

>>Relief at the Pump

(Undated) – Minnesota drivers are seeing some relief at the pump. GasBuddy reports the state’s average price for regular gasoline fell 8.1 cents in the past week, landing at $2.94 a gallon. Nationally, the average dropped 2.7 cents to $3.08. Diesel prices also dipped, down 1.8 cents to $3.69. GasBuddy says the national decline comes as oil prices slipped below $64 a barrel. With the peak of hurricane season approaching, forecasters see favorable conditions for tropical development. Analysts will be watching for any storms that could disrupt fuel supply and prices heading into Labor Day.

>>Sushi Man Wins $75K MN Derby

(Shakopee, MN) — Sushi Man, the favored horse for Saturday’s seventy-five-thousand-dollar Minnesota Derby at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, won by a neck in the eight-horse race. The three-year-old, Minnesota-bred equine, owned by One Bid Stable, beat out second-place Towner Too. The seventy-five-thousand-dollar Minnesota Oaks was won by Carson Bay, giving jockey Erica Murray her first career stakes win.
