Probation officer Latonya Reeves of Minneapolis says she works to engage sometimes disenfranchised folks who do not feel like they’re being heard. “And so we’re trying to change the game with Kamala going to the top of the ticket, which has really been influential for us. People say they’re energized, and they really want to get involved. They see themselves at the top of the ticket, which has been a long time coming.” Reeves says Governor Tim Walz was Vice President Harris’s best choice for her running mate.

(Golden Valley, MN) — A 17-year-old Minnesota teen attending his first Democratic National Convention this week has made history as the youngest delegate at the event. From Golden Valley, Isaac Winkler is the son of former state Representative Ryan Winkler, who served as the House majority leader from 2019 to 2023. Isaac Winkler was selected as a delegate for President Joe Biden and is expected to show his support for the Biden-Harris campaign at the convention in Chicago.

(Park Rapids, MN) — A Hubbard County corrections officer is recovering after being stabbed by an inmate earlier this month. According to the sheriff’s office, the unidentified male officer was sitting at a desk at the Hubbard County Jail on August 7th when he was stabbed with a shank. The officer sustained multiple stab wounds and was treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids. Twenty-three-year-old Cole Pigeon of Bayport is now facing assault charges in connection with the stabbing.

(Dover, MN) — A minor from Olmsted County faces charges of underage drinking and driving after crashing into a house Sunday. Deputies responded to the crash in Dover, finding the driver, a minor from Eyota, under the influence of alcohol. The driver was brought to a local hospital for injuries. No one else was injured. One of the house walls was damaged.

(Rochester, MN) — A bike ride featuring military veterans wounded in battle is underway in Minnesota. The Project Hero Great Lakes Challenge is an annual event from the Twin Cities to Madison, Wisconsin. Organizers say the purpose of the ride is to raise awareness of PTSD while helping veterans and first responders bond and build confidence. The event is also a fundraiser for Project Hero, the nonprofit that sponsors the ride. Riders will travel from the Twin Cities to Red Wing today, then move on to Rochester tomorrow. On Wednesday, the riders will head from Rochester to La Crosse, Wisconsin.
