(Littleton, CO) — One of the four former Minneapolis police officers convicted in the killing of George Floyd is out of prison on supervised release. A U.S. Bureau of Prisons spokesperson says 41-year-old Thomas Lane was released this morning from a low-security federal lockup facility in Littleton, Colorado. Lane was sentenced to two and a half years in federal prison for violating the civil rights of Floyd. He remained in custody in Colorado to finish his state sentence for aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter. Derek Chauvin is serving a 20-year federal sentence concurrent with his 22-year state sentence for second-degree murder and manslaughter. Ex-officers Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng are also serving prison terms.

(Moorhead, MN) — Moorhead Police are investigating a homicide. Captain Deric Swenson says officers and investigators responded early this morning to a site along the river on a report of a missing person. The body of a woman was found around 12:30 p.m. No arrests have been made. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner is working to identify the woman and cause of death. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is assisting with the investigation.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A homeless encampment in south Minneapolis has been closed after a 33-year-old man was fatally shot Monday. Police responded to a shooting around 5 p.m., finding a man lying on the sidewalk. The victim was brought to HCMC, where he later died. Investigation shows a large fight began outside the encampment, spilling into the street, where gunfire occurred. The homeless encampment in a vacant lot was cleared. No arrests have been made. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is working to identify the man and cause of death.

(St. Paul, MN) – Long-term care workers in the state may qualify for bonuses through the state’s Minnesota Care Force Incentive program. Carol Anthony, with the Department of Human Services (DHS), says, “They support people with disabilities, aging Minnesotans, older adults, or children with autism.” The exact amounts of individual bonuses will depend on how many applications the state receives. The bonuses could be as high as $1,000 per direct support professional. Employers may submit applications for the Minnesota Care Force Incentive Program between now and September 30.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Office of Cannabis Management in Minnesota is working on completing tasks to issue the state’s first recreational business licenses. More than 1,800 social equity applicants submitted their license applications by the August 12 deadline. The office plans to issue only 282 licenses from the first round of applicants. Some Minnesota residents have raised concerns that over half of the remaining applications were filed by people living outside the state. However, an agency spokesperson stated that focusing on social equity applicants should help prevent out-of-state companies from taking licenses away from deserving Minnesotans.

(St. Cloud, MN) — Coborn’s Incorporated is opening a new grocery and liquor store in Plymouth. The St. Cloud-based company says they will be part of a new project called “The Boulevard,” which is a partnership with developers Roers Companies and Scannell Properties. It will be located off Interstate 494 and Bass Lake Road. The 75-acre planned unit development will be a hub featuring more than $300 million in investments in an outdoor community park and gathering spaces, residential apartments, medical offices, business parks, and other retailers. The Coborn’s store will serve as a prototype that they say will bring a fresh approach to grocery shopping, with a focus on a wide assortment of fresh produce, locally grown products, and meals for any time of the day. Coborn’s plans to open the store in Plymouth by the fall of 2025. Coborn’s Incorporated has 77 grocery stores across the Midwest.
