>>Train vs. Vehicle Collision Under Investigation in Coon Rapids 

(Coon Rapids, MN) — Authorities in Anoka County are investigating a collision between a train and a vehicle this morning in Coon Rapids. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. Metro Transit said that Northstar Rail service was suspended following the crash. The car was reportedly on the tracks before the collision. No other information is being released.

(Falcon Heights, MN) – “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” Representative Kelly Morrison of Deephaven says the Great Minnesota Get-Together is all about statewide pride. On opening day, she wore a Boundary Waters shirt to honor the beloved Minnesota landscape, noting that “everyone pulls out their Minnesota gear” for the state fair, and that the grounds are “full of fun, happy energy.” Morrison says her favorite part of the fair is the people and getting to know their concerns for our state.

 

>>Farm-to-Food Grants for MN Schools, Childcare Centers Available

(St. Paul, MN) – Minnesota school districts and early childcare centers can start applying for grants to pay for locally sourced meals produced in the state. Program Coordinator Kate Seybold with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) says there’s nearly $1.35 million this year, an increase from last year’s million. Seybold says the extra money came in the budget passed by the state legislature. Applications for the food are due by October 23rd.

 

>>1970 Grad Donates 106 Acres of Farmland to MSU-Mankato 

(Mankato, MN) — A nursing graduate who lives in California is donating 160 acres of family farmland to Minnesota State University of Mankato. Sherry Arndt graduated in 1970, and her first-of-its-kind donation is going to the Maverick Real Estate Foundation. The farmland near Comfrey is valued at more than $1.6 million. MSU President Edward Inch said Arndt’s donation will directly support student success through hands-on learning, research opportunities, and scholarships. 

 

>>Regions Hospital Offering Help at State Fair

(St. Paul, MN) — Regions Hospital is doing its best to make sure Minnesota State Fairgoers have a safe and enjoyable experience. Dr. Aaron Burnett says they have medical tents on either end of the fairgrounds from open to close. Those tents will be staffed with EMTs, paramedics, nurses, and a physician on call. Burnett says they’re expecting more than two million people to attend the fair this year, so they’ve prepared for all types of incidents. The State Fair officially kicked off Thursday and runs through Labor Day, September 1st.

 

>>Minnesota Twins Open Weekend Series at Chicago White Sox 

(Chicago, IL) — The Minnesota Twins open a three-game series against the White Sox tonight in Chicago. The Twins are coming off three straight losses to the A’s at Target Field. Right-hander Zebby Matthews starts the opener for Minnesota. The 45-82 White Sox have the worst record in the American League. The 58-69 Twins are in fourth place in the AL Central.
