(Isanti County, MN) — One man is dead, and a woman is critically injured after a two-truck crash in Isanti County Thursday. State Patrol says around 11:45 a.m. on Highway 65, a northbound Dodge pickup and a westbound Ram pickup collided at an intersection. Dodge driver 63-year-old Mark Dauer of Athens was killed in the crash. Ram driver, 62-year-old Theresa Meyer of Athens, was brought to Cambridge Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

(Mankato, MN) — A man from Mankato who pistol-whipped a grandmother, threatened a child and shot at police has been sentenced in Hennepin County District Court. Kamau Evans pleaded guilty to several counts of assault, including two counts of assault against a peace officer during a violent incident in January. Evans also faces federal charges, and the sentence for those charges will run concurrently with the 23-year sentence he received in county court yesterday.

(Duluth, MN) — A woman at the center of an animal cruelty case in Duluth has been sentenced to three years of supervised probation. Rainna Korby now lives in Cloquet. If she complies with all conditions, a felony count of animal neglect will stay off her record. The Animal Allies Humane Society called the case the worst case of animal cruelty the staff had ever seen. Korby abandoned her young pit bull in a cage that was too small for him to stand or stretch in. He was reportedly found by a DoorDash driver in the cage in a ditch, covered with open wounds and lying in his own waste. He died just a day after being rescued.

(Falcon Hts., MN) — It is the second day of the Minnesota State Fair, and officials are encouraging visitors to use park-and-ride or express buses to reach the fairgrounds in Falcon Heights. There are more than 30 free park-and-ride locations, but they fill up quickly. Parking on the fair lots opens at 6 a.m. and costs $20. Parking for a motorcycle will cost $15 to $20, while people riding non-motorized scooters and bicycles have three free bike corrals where they can park.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Uptown Minneapolis restaurant Kim’s, run by award-winning Ann Kim, is closing its doors at the end of the month. In a post on Instagram, Kim says it’s closing due to “ongoing financial losses.” This comes just two months after Kim’s employees voted to unionize on June 28th for better pay, benefits, and respect. The post says reservations will be honored through August 30th, and any active gift cards past that date can be used at some of Kim’s other restaurants, including Young Joni, Pizzeria Lola, and Hello Pizza.
