(Brooklyn Park, MN) — Brooklyn Park Police are searching for a missing man.18-year-old Abdirahman Abdi was last seen in Brooklyn Park on Monday, taking an Uber trip to a movie theater and turning his phone off. Abdi is a type 1 diabetic, and it’s unknown if he has any prescriptions on hand. He’s described as Black, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Abdi was last seen wearing a black hoodie. This comes after a 12-year-old girl with type 1 diabetes went missing in Minneapolis over the weekend and was just found yesterday. Anyone with information should call 911.

(Savage, MN) — A fire at a Scott County warehouse this morning is under investigation. The Savage Fire Department responded to an active fire report at a concrete Cargill warehouse around 1:17. Crews contained the fire around 8 a.m. but remain on scene. The cause of the fire is unknown.

(Undated) — Former Republican state Senator Justin Eichorn is in federal court today, facing charges for attempting to solicit sex from a minor. Eichorn was arrested earlier this year after meeting with an undercover officer in Bloomington, whom he believed to be a 17-year-old girl. He is one of many men arrested in the sex sting. Eichorn tried to have the federal indictment dismissed in June, claiming he was being prosecuted due to being a senator at the time of the crime. He resigned from the Senate in March and pleaded not guilty to state charges in April.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Department of Revenue (MDR) is calling the first year of the renter’s tax credit a “success.” Commissioner Paul Marquart says 370,000 Minnesotans took advantage of the credit, and of that number, 70,000 received the benefits of the credit for the first time. Marquart says making the renter’s credit a part of an individual’s income tax filing allowed them to send out an additional $64.5 million in credits received to eligible renters this year. (St. Paul, MN) – One state senator is already working on a new bill for next session to improve Minnesota’s mental health system. D-L Senator Ron Latz of St. Louis Park says too many people in crisis are winding up in jails instead of the treatment facilities they need. Sheriffs around Minnesota have been speaking out, saying their deputies and staff are at risk when a person in crisis is brought to jail instead of a trained treatment facility. This comes a week after a naked man needing a mental health evaluation was found inside the state Capitol multiple times.

(Undated) – University of Minnesota researchers found fourteen previously unreported species of a devastating “plant destroyer” in the state. Lead Author Nick Rajtar says Phytophthora is more closely related to algae rather than fungi, but it produces spores and mycelium like fungi do. Rajtar notes that because the pathogen is a water mold, it swims from plant to plant in nurseries, forests, and waterways. He plans to test the newly detected species to better understand how it spreads diseases from host to host.
