Vergas in Otter Tail County tops the list with nine inches; Jenkins and Hackensack got eight inches; Hinckley, Willow River, and Deerwood had seven; Crosby, Kimball, St. Augusta, and Little Falls are reporting six inches; there’s five-and-a-half inches in St. Cloud, Stillwater, and Frazee; and five inches at Alexandria, Brainerd, and Mora.

(Dent, MN) — Snow-covered roads and limited visibility are blamed for a school bus crash Tuesday afternoon near Dent in Otter Tail County. Sheriff’s deputies say an Otter Tail Coaches school bus rolled into the ditch with a driver and one student onboard. No one was injured when the bust rolled onto its side in the steep ditch. A tow company removed the bus.

(New York, NY) — Attorneys for the man accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson of Maple Grove last December are challenging his arrest in an effort to suppress key evidence. During Tuesday’s pretrial hearing, body camera footage showed officers responding to a Pennsylvania McDonald’s where Luigi Mangione was taken into custody. One officer testified he searched Mangione’s backpack without a warrant, citing concerns it might contain a bomb. However, defense attorneys pointed to a video showing customers walking past during the search, and the officer acknowledged that police never evacuated the restaurant. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to nine state charges and four federal counts — the latter carrying the possibility of the death penalty.

(Duluth, MN) – Grandma’s Marathon has become only the third marathon in the United States to receive the prestigious Evergreen Certification from the Council for Responsible Sport. Grandma’s got the highest honor from this international organization for its commitment to environmental stewardship, community impact, and responsible event management. Grandma’s got high marks in several categories, including recycling plastics, composting cups, keeping them out of landfills, and keeping CO2 out of the environment by busing runners to the start line. Chicago and Los Angeles are the only other U.S. marathons to receive this honor. Grandma’s marathon also had an estimated economic impact of more than 39 million dollars for Duluth and the surrounding areas.

(Detroit Lakes, MN) — Detroit Mountain Recreation Area in Detroit Lakes is expanding with the help of an $821,700 state grant. The funding will allow the city to acquire 32.6 acres for future development. This grant is part of an $11.3 million package supporting 12 parks and trails across Greater Minnesota for Fiscal Year 2027, funded by the Parks and Trails Legacy Fund. Local leaders say the money will boost long-term expansion plans and enhance visitor experiences. The commission also set aside two $238,000 special funds for environmental-archaeological reviews and accessibility improvements at Minnesota’s 84 regional parks and trails.
