(St. Paul, MN) — The State of Minnesota filed a civil lawsuit today against Glock – one of the largest gun manufacturers in the world. The state claims the gun-maker’s pistols are easily modified into fully automatic firearms with an inexpensive modification known as a “switch” or “auto sear.” Attorney General Keith Ellison says the gun-maker was aware since the 1980s that the design of its pistols allowed for easy modification to make the gun function like a fully automatic firearm. The Department of Justice says a “switch” modification can allow a handgun to fire approximately 1,100 – 1,200 rounds per minute, making them “exceptionally lethal.”

(New York, NY) — Police in New York are trying to connect evidence from the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare C-E-O Brian Thompson to Luigi Mangione. N-Y-P-D Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the ghost gun found with Mangione in Pennsylvania matches three shell casings recovered in Manhattan. Tisch also says fingerprints found at the scene of Thompson’s shooting match Mangione’s. Investigators are now interviewing members of the suspect’s family.

(St. Paul, MN) — State education officials say Pine City Public Schools is paying 65 thousand dollars to a seventh grader bullied during the 2020-2021 school year. The Minnesota Department of Human Rights says ten students bullied the girl because of her race, and the school failed to timely and appropriately stop it. Under the settlement agreement, Pine City Schools must also change its policies and procedures to prevent further discrimination and harassment.

(St. Cloud, MN) — A Coon Rapids man has pleaded guilty to causing a crash that killed a Belgrade woman last January. Fifty-three-year-old Chad Seitz pleaded guilty to one count of criminal vehicular homicide while under the influence of methamphetamine and one count of criminal vehicular operation causing bodily harm. According to court documents, Seitz told troopers that he “may have dozed off” while on his way from Starbuck to the Twin Cities. A crash reconstruction by the Minnesota State Patrol indicated Seitz’s car crossed over the centerline and hit 41-year-old Cassie Mithaugen’s car head-on, killing her. A three-year-old girl in the back seat suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The crash happened on Highway 55 between Belgrade and Brooten.

The mercury dropped to 26 below Ely and Warroad, minus 24 in Roseau (ROH’zoh), and negative 21 at International Falls and Bemidji. Teens below zero were common across northern and central Minnesota, and negative single digits in the Twin Cities and farther south. A warm-up is on the way starting tomorrow (Fri).

The Minnesota Lottery says the ticket matched all five numbers to win the Gopher 5 jackpot. The winning numbers for December 11th are 10-22-37-38-and 39. Kwik Trip in Blaine gets a five-thousand-dollar bonus for selling the winning ticket. Gopher 5 is a Minnesota-only lotto game.
