>>Governor Walz Names Tim O’Malley as Fraud Prevention Head

(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is naming Tim O’Malley as the state’s new Director of Program Integrity.  O’Malley will oversee all fraud prevention and protection of state taxpayer dollars across the state.  O’Malley is a judge, former superintendent of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, former F-B-I agent, and reformer in the archdiocese. The governor’s new plan also includes a state partnership with WayPoint, a third party fraud prevention expert group. O’Malley will start the new job next month.

 

>>Plymouth Police Release Information on Kidnapping of Federal Agent

(Plymouth, MN) — A Homeland Security Investigations agent is safe following the report of a kidnapping Wednesday afternoon in Plymouth.    Officers responded to a call about a kidnapped federal agent and a vehicle fleeing from Plymouth to New Hope.   The Plymouth officers learned enroute that the suspect vehicle was at the New Hope Police Department and the agent had been safely recovered.  One person ran from the scene but was taken into custody.   The Plymouth P-D said in a statement that it does not engage in federal immigration enforcement and only enforces only state and local laws.

 

>>Reported Shooting Cancel Classes at Stewartville High/Middle School

(Stewartville, MN) — Authorities in southeastern Minnesota are investigating a reported shooting this morning  (Fri) on the Stewartville High School and Middle School campus.     The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says deputies are on the scene of a “critical incident.”   The Stewartville School District has canceled classes for the day.   Investigators say there is no threat to the students, staff, or public.    No other information is being released.

 

>>Arrest Made in Corcoran Death Investigation

(Corcoran, MN) —  A man is dead and a suspect is jailed on probable cause murder after an incident in Corcoran.     Officers were doing a welfare check Thursday morning when they found a man dead inside a residence.  A 54-year-old man in the home was taken into custody.   The victim’s cause and manner of death are still under investigation.   His name hasn’t been released.

 

>>HealthPartners Highlights New ‘House Calls” Program

(St. Louis Park, MN) —   Minnesota-based HealthPartners is highlighting its new ‘house calls’ program that combines home-based medicine with virtual care.  Transitions Senior Manager Wendy Olson says home-based providers were having difficulties treating patients due to lack of access and reluctance to send them to the emergency room unnecessarily.  She says, “we said, well, let’s use the electronic medical record because it can quickly relay these messages back and forth, we’ll make sure that we have a clinician virtually available each day from our home-based medicine team, and let’s give it a try.”  Olson says of the 235 rapid responses since March 17th, 89 percent were able to be treated at home.

 

>>Timberwolves Play Warriors in Bay Area Friday Night

(San Francisco, CA) — The Minnesota Timberwolves play the Golden State Warriors tonight (Fri 9pm)  in San Francisco.   The Wolves lost to the Phoenix Suns 108-105 Monday at Target Center to fall to 15-and-9.    Warriors All-Star guard Steph Curry is expected to return to the lineup after sitting out five games with a thigh contusion.  Golden State improved to 13-and-12 with a 123-91 win Sunday in Chicago.
