(Minneapolis, MN) — Minnesota leaders remember former President Jimmy Carter as a leader and dedicated public servant. Carter passed away yesterday at his home in Plains, Georgia. Senator Amy Klobuchar says Carter showed what public service means with his work. Governor Tim Walz says Carter fought for democracy, climate change, and humanity. Minnesotans also remember Carter for tapping former Minnesota Senator Walter Mondale to run with him in 1976 on a ticket nicknamed Gritz and Fritz. Public observances are planned for Washington, D.C., and Atlanta. A private interment will follow the services in Carter’s hometown of Plains, Georgia.

(Deer Creek, MN) — The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office says a 3-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself has died. The shooting happened Sunday around 5:40 p.m. southeast of Deer Creek. The boy was taken to Astera Health in Wadena. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting.

(Crystal, MN) — A Crystal home is damaged after a car crashed into it this morning (MON). It’s unknown if there are any injuries. Police say the driver lost control and hit the house. Crystal police said there was structural damage to the home.

(St. Paul, MN) — State officials confirm four new cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry. The Minnesota Board of Animal Health detected bird flu infections in commercial turkey operations in Chippewa, Fillmore, and Stearns counties and one backyard flock in Houston County. These are the first positive cases since late November in Minnesota, affecting nearly 100 thousand birds. State veterinarians say they are likely the result of waterfowl heading south for the winter. Iowa and Wisconsin are also reporting additional cases of avian influenza.
