(Burnsville, MN) — Family, friends, and the community are paying their respects to two fallen Burnsville police officers and a firefighter/paramedic killed while responding to a domestic disturbance. The joint memorial service for officers Paul Elmstrand, Matthew Ruge, and firefighter Adam Finseth is underway at Grace Church in Eden Prairie. Since seating will be limited, community members can gather at Burnsville’s Prince Of Peace Lutheran Church to view the service. Grace Church will also livestream the service on YouTube. The public is encouraged to join the procession route after the service.

(Burnsville, MN) — All schools in the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District are closed today (Wed) due to the public memorial and processional for the three fallen first responders.  District 191 officials say the planned road and street closures for the procession will impact transportation throughout the area.   All school facilities are closed to the public, and after-school sports and activities are canceled.

>>Crow Wing County Authorities ID Man Found Dead in Jail

(Brainerd, MN) — Authorities are identifying the man found dead in the Crow Wing County jail in Brainerd.  Sheriff’s deputies say jail staff discovered 57-year-old Robert Slaybaugh of Nisswa unresponsive in his cell Thursday night.  Paramedics tried to save him, but Slaybaugh died at the scene.  No word yet on his cause of death.  Officers say he had been booked for D-W-I earlier in the evening.  His obituary says Slaybaugh was an avid fisherman and a Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza founder.

>>Prinsburg Man Faces Assault Charges After Attempted Suicide by Cop

(Prinsburg, MN) — A man in Kandiyohi County faces assault charges after attempting suicide by cop. Deputies responded to a call reporting a suicidal man with a handgun at a residence south of Prinsburg Sunday. Dispatchers persuaded the man to leave the home, ensuring the safety of others inside. Officers attempted to persuade the man to drop the gun, but he instead pointed it at the officers, expressing his desire to be shot. Eventually, he complied and dropped the weapon, leading to his arrest. No injuries were reported.

>>Rochester Man Arrested for Brick of Cocaine

(Rochester, MN) — A Rochester man is in custody after officials seized a brick of cocaine from his residence. The drugs were discovered during the execution of a search warrant at the home of 44-year-old Dennis Siggers around 5 p.m. Monday. The cocaine weighed one kilogram, with authorities also finding cash bounds inside the residence. Siggers was detained on the road before the raid. He has two prior felony convictions for drug sales and aggravated robbery. Siggers is currently awaiting arraignment in Olmsted County Court.

(Austin, MN) — Hormel Foods has announced the winners of its 13th annual MLK Essay Contest. Students from 25 elementary and middle schools nationwide were invited to write essays reflecting on the significance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The winners, Yvanna Lopez from Austin, Madison Blair from Minneapolis, and Aisha Mohamed from Barron, Wisconsin, will have the opportunity to read their essays at Hormel’s headquarters in Austin this morning (WED, 11 a.m.).
