(White Bear Lake, MN) — The missing person alert for 20-year-old Noah Berres of White Bear Lake is canceled. Police say Berres has been located and is safe. He was last seen Wednesday night leaving home on foot and his family was concerned that he was not properly dressed for the cold temperatures. 

 

>>39 More Deaths in Minnesota’s Weekly Flu Update 

(St. Paul, MN) — There are 39 additional flu-related deaths in the weekly update from the Minnesota Department of Health. A total of 202 people have died in the state from influenza complications this season. The number of patients hospitalized with the flu fell from 815 two weeks ago to 486 last week. School flu outbreaks also dropped from 20 to 13, and 18 long-term care facilities reported new outbreaks. 

 

>>Mankato Man Indicted for 1st Degree Murder in December Shooting

(Mankato, MN) — An 18-year-old from Mankato is facing a first-degree murder charge for the fatal shooting of another man during a marijuana vape cartridge deal. A Blue Earth County grand jury indicted Guenther Boone for the December 21st shooting death of 31-year-old Darious Johnson. Police said Boone shot Johnson in the head while Johnson was trying to buy vape carts. Boone later told investigators he was going to rob Johnson but shot him because he thought he was reaching for a gun. A first-degree murder conviction carries a life prison sentence. 

 

>>Eden Valley Man Found Guilty of 1st Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct 

(St. Cloud, MN) — An Eden Valley  man is going to prison for sexually abusing a preschool-age girl more than 20 years ago. A Stearns County jury found 36-year-old Aaron Edberg guilty of one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Edberg was living with the victim and her mother in Eden Valley when the alleged abuse occurred between 2000 and 2001. The girl reported the abuse to a teacher in December 2023 after they had moved from Minnesota to California. She told authorities Edberg made her perform sex acts when she was age four or five. Edberg’s sentencing hearing hasn’t been scheduled. 

 

>>ICE Arrest 2 Rochester Restaurant Workers, Protest, Closure Follow

(Rochester, MN) — A Rochester restaurant has shut down one of its two locations after an ICE raid on Wednesday arrested two brothers in the parking lot. Nupa Mediterranean Grill posted to Facebook saying the employees “may have been working under false documentation,” and ICE arrested them “without asking for documentation.” Residents protested in downtown Rochester on Thursday. Nupa says the men accounted for a lot of their hours, and that location will remain closed until they can find someone to replace them.

 

>>AG Ellison, 13 States Sue Over Musk’s Government Authority

(St. Paul, MN) — Attorney General Keith Ellison and 13 other states are challenging Elon Musk’s authority as President Donald Trump’s unelected right-hand man. The lawsuit claims Trump created DOGE, Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, without congressional approval, giving Musk access to sensitive government data and “virtually unchecked power.” Trump created DOGE to make recommendations on cutting annual federal expenses. The suit asks Musk’s current and previous actions be declared unconstitutional and invalidated. 

 

>>Burnsville Honors 3 First Responders Killed in 2024 Standoff

(Burnsville, MN) — Three first responders who were killed during a standoff in 2024 will be remembered today by the City of Burnsville. Police Officer Matthew Ruge and Paul Elmstrand and firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth were fatally shot on February 18th while responding to a sexual assault report. The suspect, Shannon Gooden, fired over 100 rounds at authorities during the hours-long standoff, before killing himself. City leaders will speak at 2 p.m.
