(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota House and Senate leaders are unveiling their priorities today (Mon) for the legislative session which begins tomorrow. D-F-L leaders are previewing the session this morning at the State Capitol and G-O-P leaders are releasing their wish list this afternoon. Combatting fraud and passing a bill to create a state Office of Inspector General is at the top of the list for both parties. Governor Walz and Democrats plan to propose a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in response to the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School. Republicans say they won’t support any new restrictions on guns.

(St. Paul, MN) — The F-B-I has formally notified the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) it will not provide state investigators with any information or evidence in the January 24th shooting death of Alex Pretti. The B-C-A has reiterated its request for information, access to evidence, and cooperation in the January 7th fatal shooting of Renee Good and the January 14th shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis in north Minneapolis. At this time, it remains unclear whether any cooperation or information-sharing related to these cases will occur. B-C-A Superintendent Drew Evans says, “While this lack of cooperation is both concerning and unprecedented, the B-C-A remains committed to conducting thorough, independent, and transparent investigations.”

(Columbia Heights, MN) — Anoka County authorities are investigating a shooting at a Columbia Heights restaurant that injured two people on Valentine’s Day. Officers say a man fired gunshots inside the restaurant before fleeing Saturday night and a man and a boy were taken to the hospital. They are listed in stable condition. Investigators say the shooting was not random. No arrests have been made.

(Holdingford, MN) — A large fire destroyed the Holdingford Feed Mill Sunday night. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says multiple callers reported flames and explosions around 7:40 p.m. Deputies found the building heavily involved, with fire spreading through the structure. The Holdingford Fire Department responded and called in assistance from several neighboring departments. Crews were able to put out the fire, but officials say the building is a total loss. Nearby grain bins were not damaged. No one was inside the mill when the fire started, and the cause remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.

(Fargo, ND) — Another search Sunday for a West Fargo woman who is believed to have been killed by her boyfriend last month. A group gathered at Dike East near the Red River in Fargo to search for Isadora Wengel. The searchers included Wengel’s father who introduced himself to the crowd and expressed his gratitude for their support. Wengel was last seen alive on New Year’s Eve and reported missing on January 7th. Since then, Fargo Police and other law enforcement agencies have searched the apartment of 21-year-old Joshua Hite, the Fargo Landfill, and areas of Otter Tail County, Minnesota. People in the Fergus Falls, Battle Lake, Underwood and Elizabeth areas have been asked to check their property for any sign of a black tote with a red cover which may contain clues to the murder. Hite is charged with Wengel’s killing.

(Madison, WI) — The Gopher women’s basketball team extended their winning streak to eight games with an 83-60 victory over the Badgers Sunday in Madison. Minnesota improved to 11-4 in the Big Ten and 20-6 overall. Wisconsin falls to 5-10 in conference play and 13-13 overall. Mara Braun had 20 points, Amaya Battle scored 17, Sophie Hart added 13, and Tori McKinney finished with 12 points and five steals. The Golden Gophers host Ohio State on Wednesday night.

(Inglewood, CA) — Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards won his first N-B-A All-Star Game M-V-P award Sunday after leading Team U-S-A Stars to a 47 to 21 win over Team U-S-A Stripes. Edwards scored eight points in the final and forced overtime in the Stars’ opening game in what appeared to be one of the most competitive All-Star showcases in recent years. The N-B-A adopted the new three-game, round-robin format in hopes of boosting intensity during an Olympic year. N-B-A Commissioner Adam Silver praised players for elevating the level of play. The All-Star weekend will head to Phoenix in 2027.
