(Paynesville, MN) — A Stearns County man is accused of firing several gunshots at police during a standoff near Paynesville. Authorities were called to the home Saturday morning for the report of a domestic disturbance. They contacted the victim and tried to arrest 58-year-old Nicholas Kaufenberg, but he refused to come out and threatened deputies. Investigators say the Stearns-Benton County SWAT breached a bedroom window, and Kaufenberg fired several rounds from a shotgun, hitting one officer in the safety glasses. Kaufenberg was eventually taken into custody, and no one was hurt.

(Austin, MN) — Police in southern Minnesota are investigating a weekend shooting that left one man dead and another wounded in Austin. Officers say they found a man injured Saturday afternoon and provided first aid, but he died at the scene. Investigators say another victim was taken to the hospital by private vehicle. Deputies say the A-T-V suffered a mechanical failure while operating and caught fire. The machine was destroyed, but no one was injured.

(Duluth, MN) — The sprinkler system in a Duluth apartment complex prevented a kitchen fire from getting out of hand. It happened yesterday at the Midtowne Manor. The city says most of the fire was contained before crews got there. Two people in the apartment were able to get out safely.
