>>Significant Snowfall Along North Shore and Northern Minnesota

(Duluth, MN) — A blizzard warning continues along the North Shore where more than a foot of snow has fallen in places like Two Harbors and Finland.   Duluth National Weather Service Meteorologist Nathan Lynum says this winter storm isn’t over yet.  He says there is the potential for another six to eight inches in the Arrowhead.   Chisholm received eight inches overnight, six inches fell in Bemidji,  five in Coleraine, and four-and-a-half inches at Warroad.  It has been raining in central and southern Minnesota and that is changing over to light snow as temperatures fall.

 

>>Red Flag Warning Issued for Southwest Minnesota Counties

(Sioux Falls, SD) —  A Red Flag Warning is in effect today (Wed 10-6) for three counties in southwestern Minnesota where there is no snowpack.  The National Weather Service is warning of extreme fire risk conditions in Jackson, Nobles, and Rock counties.  Forecasters say fires can spread quickly and grow out of control with strong wind gusts and low humidity.   The D-N-R will not issue burning permits in those three counties and campfires are discouraged.

 

>>Minnesota Housing Market Cooled in January

(Grand Rapids, MN) — A blast of Arctic air cooled both Minnesotans and the housing market in January.   Along with the usual winter slowdown, extreme cold, economic uncertainty, and recent federal enforcement actions left many buyers and sellers hesitant to make major purchases.   Minnesota Realtors president Wendy Uzelac of Grand Rapids says all signs are pointing to a strong 2026.  She says, “I really do believe that there’s pent-up demand on both sides of the coin, and hopefully that will all come together to make moves possible for both the first-time homebuyers and then people being able to envision themselves in their next home.”   Pending sales fell 11.4 percent statewide last month.

 

>>Cass County Sheriff Continues 25-Year Search for Rachel Anthony’s Murder Suspect

(Pine River, MN) — Cass County investigators are marking 25 years since Rachel Anthony disappeared and are renewing their call for information in the unsolved case.   Anthony was closing Ultimate Liquors in Pine River just before 10 p.m. on February 27th, 2001. Her car was found still running around 1 a.m., the back door was unlocked, and her purse and coat were inside.  Anthony’s body was found six weeks later near Breezy Point. The last transaction, at 9:57 p.m., was a purchase of Mickey’s Malt Liquor and Kool cigarettes. The buyer has never been identified and remains a person of interest. Sheriff Bryan Welk says they hope someone with even the smallest detail will come forward.

 

>>Osakis Man Arrested for Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material

(Osakis, MN) — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says a cyber tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) led to the arrest of an Osakis man following an investigation into the suspected possession of child sexual abuse material.  During a search warrant execution, investigators discovered additional evidence connected to the case at the home.  Deputies say 64-year-old Christopher Payne was taken into custody without incident.

 

>>Quarterfinals of Girls State Hockey Tournament Begin in St. Paul 

(St. Paul, MN)  —  The Minnesota State High School Girls Hockey Tournament gets underway today (Wed) in downtown St. Paul.    Warroad and Luverne are playing the first Class A quarterfinal at Grand Casino Arena (11am).   Defending state champion Dodge County faces Proctor/Hermantown in the second game (1pm).  Breck/Groves Academy and St. Cloud face off at 6p-m,  and Mankato East and Blake play the final Class A matchup around 8 o’clock tonight.  The Class 2-A quarterfinals start Thursday with Hill-Murray looking to defend its state title.

 

>>#23 Minnesota Women’s Basketball Hosting #10 Ohio State

(Minneapolis, MN) — The 23rd-ranked University of Minnesota women’s basketball team plays number ten Ohio State tonight (Wed 7pm) at the Barn.    The Golden Gophers are on an eight-game win streak and cracked the top 25 poll for the first time this week.    Minnesota improved to 11-4 in the Big Ten and 20-6 overall following Sunday’s win at Wisconsin.  The Buckeyes are 11-4 in conference play and 22-4 overall.  Ohio State is coming off a 76-75 home loss to 20th-ranked Maryland.
