(St. Paul, MN) – A new proposal that would limit female participation in sports to only female participation will be discussed today by the House Education Policy Committee. This bill, authored by Republican Peggy Scott of Andover, would cover elementary and secondary school athletics. It calls for female participation only, and a physician’s note would be required if there is a dispute over whether the student is female. If passed by the legislature, this would take effect in July of this year. A similar bill is in the Senate. The committee hearing is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. today.

(Minnetonka, MN) — UnitedHealthcare, based in Minnetonka, is facing a fine of $3.4 million. Insurance regulators in North Carolina found that the health insurer improperly allowed patients to incur excessive out-of-network healthcare bills. The North Carolina Department of Insurance stated that UnitedHealthcare should have protected patients from balance billing, which occurs when providers ask patients to pay the difference when insurance companies reimburse less than the provider’s charges for medical services. These findings come after a four-year investigation.

(Pine County, MN) — A pickup truck driver is accused of hitting a bicyclist and leaving him to die on a Minnesota road. Eddie Eiffler has been charged with two counts of criminal vehicular homicide. Police say the 62-year-old struck and killed Tyler Spooner on February 10th in Pine County. Eiffler allegedly left the scene after the incident. He was later arrested and released after posting a bond of $50,000. Eiffler has pleaded not guilty and is expected to return to court on March 25th.

This area will feature various vendors, including locally made goods, fast food options, and a coffee shop. Airport officials stated that it has been a decade since this area was renovated.

(Duluth, MN) — The Duluth Pack store and manufacturing facility are under new ownership. Kevin Hall and a business partner recently purchased the 142-year-old company in Duluth. Hall says the core values and the location will stay the same, and product quality will always be a top emphasis. There will be some new products and changes to the company’s branding. Duluth Pack has made backpacks, bags, and other products since 1882.
