(Lisbon, OH) — Ex-Minneapolis police officer J. Alexander Kueng (King) is out of federal prison after serving three years for violating the civil rights of George Floyd. Officials say Kueng was released this morning (Wed) from a low-security federal prison in Ohio and will be on supervised release when he returns to Minnesota. King and three other officers were convicted in the May 2020 killing of Floyd. He received a state prison sentence of three-and-a-half years for aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter, which was served concurrently with his federal sentence. Kueng grew up in north Minneapolis.

(St. Paul, MN) – House Democrats have filed a lawsuit asking the Minnesota Supreme Court to declare that Republicans acted unlawfully when they organized and elected a House Speaker yesterday without a quorum. At the beginning of the session, Secretary of State Steve Simon ruled there were not enough house members to hold a quorum and stopped the proceedings. House Republicans continue with their own agenda. The DFL lawsuit states the Republicans have no legal authority to conduct business now. Democrats are absent from the capitol, waiting for a power-sharing deal to be agreed on by House Republicans.

>>Woman Pleads Guilty to Purchasing Guns that Killed Three First Responders

(St. Paul, MN) — The woman who purchased the guns used to kill two Burnsville officers and a firefighter/paramedic last year has pleaded guilty. 36-year-old Ashley Dyrdahl pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday to two counts of straw purchasing guns. Dyrdahl’s boyfriend, 38-year-old Shannon Gooden, fired more than 100 rounds from the illegally purchased weapons last February when officers responded to his and Dyrdahl’s home on a domestic abuse call. Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, both 27 and 40-year-old firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth, were killed. Gooden also injured police Sgt. Adam Medlicott before taking his own life.

(Fridley, MN) — Fridley Public Schools will be closed today due to a reported threat to school safety. School officials did not provide specific details but mentioned that the threat was shared on Snapchat, and the police are currently investigating. All after-school activities and evening events at Fridley school buildings have also been canceled.

(Collegeville, MN) — A new law is set to go into effect Sunday that would ban the popular social media app TikTok in the U.S. College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University Professor Phil Kronebusch says if the Supreme Court lets the law stand, app stores like Apple almost certainly won’t want to run the risk of offering an app that’s been banned. He says, “Apple would almost certainly remove the app from its store. People with the TikTok app on their phone could continue to use it, but it would probably not update and would eventually develop glitches over time”. The TikTok ban is part of a large piece of legislation Congress passed last year.
