(Mankato, MN) — Minnesota State University Mankato is hosting the premier documentary “MLK 11-12-61” screening tonight (Mon 6-8 pm) at the Ostrander Auditorium. The film is about a 1961 visit to Mankato where Doctor King gave two sermons at Centenary Methodist Church and a speech at Mankato High School. The 50-minute film showing will be followed by a 30-minute panel discussion and a presentation of the Greater Mankato Diversity Council’s Pathfinder awards. The event is free and open to the public.

(Detroit Lakes, MN) — The Becker County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18-year-old Ronald Wright from Detroit Lakes for Criminal Vehicular Operation after his car crashed into a tree near the Sunlite Bar and Grill. The tree prevented a more serious crash into the building. Authorities responded around 7:30 PM on Saturday after a call from the bar reported two individuals with injuries. Both Wright and a 15-year-old girl were believed to have been wearing seatbelts, but alcohol and speed may have played a role in the accident. They were taken to Essential-St. Mary’s Hospital and Wright were released and booked into the Becker County Jail.

(Brooklyn Park, MN) — Police in Brooklyn Park are investigating a drug-related shooting that left a 17-year-old boy in critical condition. Officers found the teen with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest Sunday evening. He was initially conscious but lost consciousness before being taken to the hospital. Investigators say the victim and suspects had arranged a marijuana sale on Snapchat. Several suspects shot the boy and fled on foot. Detectives are asking the public for more information about the shooting.

(Plymouth, MN) — Plymouth officials say local police and sergeant union voted no confidence in police chief Erik Fadden. The unions involved are Police Officer Local 18 and Sergeant Union 34. Fadden responded to the vote of no confidence by saying that he was discouraged by the letter from the unions. He added that he remains committed to fostering communication, collaboration, teamwork, and respect as we move forward together.
