Isanti County will receive emergency funding for damage caused by thunderstorms in August. Dakota, Lyon, Olmsted, Ramsey, and Scott counties will receive assistance to help cover the damage caused by severe flooding in June and July. The governor says the state is committed to helping communities recover from severe weather.

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota’s elected leaders are criticizing President Trump’s decision to freeze federal loans and grants. The President announced this freeze yesterday while his administration conducts a review to ensure that spending measures comply with recently signed executive orders. A federal judge has temporarily blocked the order, putting it on hold until Monday. Governor Walz stated that Minnesota cannot cover the nearly two-billion-dollar deficit that this freeze would create in the state budget each month. Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan called the move unconstitutional and an illegal power grab by Trump. Additionally, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced that he would join nearly two dozen other states in a lawsuit to challenge the funding freeze.

 

>>Two Students Injured in Bus Crash

(Cook, MN) — This morning, two students were taken to the hospital after the school bus they were in slid off the road and crashed into two trees in St. Louis County. First responders were dispatched to the scene near Northwoods School in Cook shortly after 8 a.m. There were 31 students and a driver on board. The injuries sustained by the two students were non-life-threatening. Icy road conditions are thought to have contributed to the crash.

 

>>MN Man Arrested After Traveling to VA To Have Sex with Minor

(Reston, VA) — A Minnesota man has been arrested in Virginia after he allegedly traveled more than a thousand miles to have sex with a minor. Fairfax County police arrested 30-year-old Trent Fair on Saturday at a home near Reston, Virginia. Investigators say Fair met the 15-year-old victim through TikTok. He’s facing multiple charges, including solicitation of a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and producing child sexual abuse material.

 

>>School Board Votes to Close Elementary School in Wanamingo

(Wanamingo, MN) — A school district in southern Minnesota has voted to close an elementary school and consolidate all students in a single building. This closure will take effect at the end of the current school year. Students from kindergarten through 12th grade will now attend the school in Kenyon, about 11 miles west of Wanamingo. The district anticipates saving around $700,000 annually as a result of this change.

 

>>Lakeville Public Schools Votes to Remove Inclusive Poster Series 

(Lakeville, MN) — Lakeville Public Schools will no longer feature an “Inclusive Posters Series” in classrooms. The District Board voted Tuesday to remove the series, which is made up of eight posters with messages saying, “Be kind,” “We’re stronger together,” and two posters that say, “Black Lives Matter.” This comes after a lawsuit alleging the posters create a “hostile education environment” and that the district turned down poster ideas that said, “All Lives Matter” or “Blue Lives Matter.” Hundreds of community members were disappointed by the decision last night.

In a video posted on YouTube, Chief Hodges expressed the importance of addressing these scams proactively. He cautioned that individuals may impersonate law enforcement officials and demand money in exchange for avoiding deportation. Chief Hodges emphasized that the police department has a plan in place to recognize these scams and is committed to informing residents about them.
