(Fillmore County, MN) — A woman will only spend 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to a hit-and-run crash. On February 16th (2024), 33-year-old Brittany Edgar was driving on a country road in Fillmore County when she hit an Amish buggy. 9 people were injured. Edgar fled the scene, was pulled over by a deputy en route, and told them she had hit a deer. Edgar must pay $20,600 in restitution. She was also sentenced to 13 months in prison, which will be stayed during her three-year probation.

Officers received a report of a person possibly falling from the Civic Center ramp around 4:15 p.m. on New Year’s Day. Investigators say the man was dead when they arrived. (Minneapolis, MN) — A group that represents the airline industry is suing Minnesota over its sick time regulations. Airlines for America sued the state on Monday in U.S. District Court. The lawsuit claims Minnesota’s sick time regulations could encourage airline employees to abuse sick leave policies already in place. The suit also claims enforcing the state’s rules could lead to staffing shortages and flight cancelations. The airline group represents ten airlines, including Delta, United and American.

(Duluth, MN) — The 2025 John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon in northeastern Minnesota is postponed until March 2nd due to unsafe trail conditions. The board of directors says recent assessments revealed insufficient snow and ice along the 300-mile course from Duluth to Grand Portage. The 40th annual running was scheduled for January 26th. President Mike Keyport says postponing the race is the best option to ensure the safety and well-being of the dogs, mushers, and everyone involved. The warm weather and lack of snow last winter resulted in the cancellation of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon.
