(Rochester, MN) — Mayo Clinic is suing Sanford Health Plan for not paying a patient’s claims of nearly $740,000. In 2022, patient C. G. spent 52 days at the Mayo Clinic after being transferred from North Dakota. The lawsuit says the health insurer approved and authorized the patient’s stay, healthcare goods, and services. Once discharged, Snaford told Mayo the patient was on a tribal plan and a “payor of last resort” and said C.G.’s secondary insurance, Blue Cross Blue Shield, should be billed. BCBS denied the claims. Sanford declined to comment.
